In Friday practice for this weekends Austrian GP Ferrari and Mercedes are going to fit Titanium skid plates in a bid to bring back sparks and make F1 more spectacular. These will be fitted to the 'plank' on the underside of the car and could be mandated in the regulations for the 2015 season.
Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari and Nico Rosberg's Mercedes will carry the titanium skid block but in different places on the bottom of the car in order to gather more information regarding the suitability of the plan.
Of course this is only the first step of the process to see this introduced within the regulations but a good enough test on friday could well see it passed as a rule by the World Motorsport Council who meet next week.
